смена мту на стороне А ни к чему не приводит. в чем же проблема?

ведь если бы это была физическая проблема, ошибки быди бы с 2х сторон

Если повреждены только несколько пар (или при плохом обжиме), а не все, то ошибки вполне могут быть только на одной стороне.
